Island IEA Members Qualify for Regional and Zone Competitions

After a fall and winter season of showing in southeastern Massachusetts with the new White Stone Interscholastic Equestrian team, Hazel Ehrman and Ayla Strom have qualified for the regional Interscholastic Equestrian Association competition. Ayla has also qualified for the Zone 1 Finals, which will be held March 28 and 29 at Eastern States Exposition Fair Grounds in West Springfield, MA. Zone 1 includes Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont, and consists of 10 regions, our region has nine teams competing.

Current (2025-26 Season) members of the Varsity and Junior Varsity Team are: Leelyn Thompson, Ayla Strom, and Emma Waltersdorf. Varsity and Junior Varsity riders are students in grades nine through twelve.

Members of the Future Riders (students in grades four through eight) are: Nina Teles, Hazel Ehrman, Frances Moffatt, Isabella Espino, Colby Greene, and Shyanne Batchelder.

This was White Stone's first year in IEA, and next year, they will co-host competitions.

IEA is equivalent to school sports for equestrians. It is great for all young riders (and the kids are really talented!). It is incredibly accessible, which is especially great for those who might not otherwise have the means or opportunity to participate in conventional horse showing. It exposes riders to lots of different horses (you ride the host’s horses, you do not bring your own) and creates a team experience for what is most typically an individual sport.

White Stone Interscholastic Equestrian is looking forward to welcoming new team members. Membership in the Interscholastic Equestrian Association is open to any Island 4th to 12th grader. You do not need to have your own horse and kids who ride anywhere on the island are welcome to join!

White Stone Equestrian is listed on the MVHC website under MV Equestrian Facilities. More information about joining the Interscholastic Equestrian Association can be found at their website https://www.rideiea.org/
